Amazon Web Services dashboard goes temporarily offline

The main web application supporting Amazon Web Services, the cloud-computing arm of the online retailer, went temporarily offline for some people Tuesday morning. The problems with the IT management tool began at 11:00 a.m. ET, according to Downdetector, a service that tracks tech outages. An Amazon spokesperson acknowledged the issues in an email to Fortune and said they were resolved as of 11:39 a.m. ET. The company did not elaborate on the cause.

 

Microsoft says Azure fended off what might just be the world's biggest-ever DDoS attack

Microsoft claims its Azure cloud has fended off the largest DDOS attack it's detected, which clocked in at 2.4Tbit/sec. The software giant has disclosed the attack, which was detected in late August. The attack traffic originated from approximately 70,000 sources and from multiple countries in the Asia-Pacific region, such as Malaysia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Japan, and China, as well as from the United States.

 

 

Google Cloud adds tool to show users' carbon emissions

Google Cloud announced that it has created a tool for users to measure their environmental impact when using the platform. The Carbon Footprint feature will show gross carbon emissions over time, linked to electricity consumption generated by using the system. This will allow companies using Google Cloud to include this information in environmental reports, internal audits and disclosure of results related to sustainability.
